Maa'lish

It's Ok!

This song is by Hoda.

** Ana asalhak marra w a'ol "Maa'lish!"
I come this time and I say "It's ok!"
W teghlat teni w a'ol "Maa'lish!"
And you make a mistake again and I say "It's ok!"
W asamhak teni w a'ol "Maa'lish!"
And I forgive you again and I say "It's ok!"
Eh!

Talet, rabe'a, khames marra
Third, fourth, fifth time
w ana aghrat marra
and if I make a mistake once
w mabte'balsh tab lee.
you won't take it.
Maa'lish!
It's ok!

Wahyat illi suftu ma'ak
I swear with all I saw with you
w omri illi da' fi hawak.
and with my life that I spent loving you.
Ana halfa la'tub w ansak
I swear I'll stop loving you and forget you
w akhali el a'zab yehwak
and I'll let this be the punishment of loving you.
Ana asalhak marra.
I come this time.
Maa'lish! La, la, la!
It's ok! No, no, no!

Khalas illi rah ahu rah.
That's it! Bygones are bygones.
Ya saib fi albi grah.
Oh the one leaving! You left wounds in my heart.
La albi fi hawak ertah.
No, when my heart was in love with you it didn't have any rest.
Wala taieb grahi dawak.
And your medicine didn't heal my wounds.
Ana asalhak marra.
I come this time.
W a'ol "Maa'lish!"
And I say "It's ok!"
** repeat

W a'ol "Maa'lish!"
And I say "It's ok!"
Mafish "Maa'lish!"
There is no "Ok"!
Maa'lish! La, la, la!
It's ok! No, no, no!

"Maa'lish!" is widely used in different occasions. It can be translated as "I'm sorry!", "It's ok!", "Don't care!", "Don't worry!".

I'm very grateful for all my friends, who helped me to translate the lyrics of this song. None of my friends is a professional Arabic-English translator: some of them are fluent in Arabic, some English and a few - my self included - have some skill in both languages. It's often quite challenging to express both the idea and the literal meaning of the lyrics in a few words, as I consider it most useful to the dancers that the translation include both these aspects.
