El Morgeha

The Swing

This song is by Amr El Saied.

* El donya zay el morgeha yom taht w fo.
Life is like a swing one day it is down and one day it is up.
Feeha khal 'aisha w mertaha we feeha nas mish fo.
There are people living in a good level and some people aren't so well off (literally high).
wana mashi batmargah feeha men taht le fo, le fo.
And I'm walking swinging in it form down to up, to up.

El donya lama betedeena benefrah w a'ol
When world gives us everything making us happy we say
el saad gana w yarito yefdal 'alatool.
happiness came and we hope it will stay forever.
W law akhadet minak tet'sar w el fekr yetool.
And when it takes from you, making you sad and think all the time.
** Wallah batmargah feeha men taht le fo, le fo.
I swear I'am swinging in it from down to up, to up.

El donya siima fe tabi'tha kulaha aflam
The life is like a theatre full of movies
benmasel feeha w benekhreg abl mabenam.
we act in it and direct before we sleep.
Law 'agabak dorak testa'gib we te'aol ya salam
If you like your role you are happy (literally you say "ya salam")
w en khanak hazak tetmana law rohak fo.
and if you are unlucky you wish that your soul would go up.
repeat from **

El donya mish donyet 'afya wala 'az w mal
Life is not meant to be lived by strength or richness and money
el donya 'aiza 'oloob safia mish 'olna w 'oal.
the world needs kind heart not just words.
Elli 'adaha we 'aol gafya tehdefo men fo
If you play against it and are thrown away (literally up)
eza kont 'aiz teksabha 'aish fiha bel zo.
and if you want to win it, live politely in it.
Da ana lissa mashi w batmargah men taht le fo, le fo.
I still walk and swing form down to up, to up.
repeat from *

I'm very grateful for all my friends, who helped me to translate the lyrics of this song. None of my friends is a professional Arabic-English translator: some of them are fluent in Arabic, some English and a few - my self included - have some skill in both languages. It's often quite challenging to express both the idea and the literal meaning of the lyrics in a few words, as I consider it most useful to the dancers that the translation include both these aspects.
